Google may start renting videos
Google recently updated the terms of service of its video uploading program Google Video. The most interesting part of the update is the introduction of new terms that point to a rental model for video downloads.
The important changes in the document have been reported by zdnet.com. The changes in the document lead to conclusion that some sort of paying method is being planned by Google for the service.
According to the new version of the document, the user is "granting Google a royalty-free, non-exclusive right and license to, host, cache, route, transmit, store, copy, modify, distribute, perform, display, reformat, excerpt, facilitate the sale or rental of copies of, analyze, and create algorithms based on the Authorized Content..."
Now, it is interesting to see how this is gonna play with the existing offer of Google video. It may be possible that Google is doing this only as a way of protecting its interests over this content. It may also be that they have some very specific plan for the program, which involve paying for part of the content.
