Google Talk is now interoperable

Google talk is improving its Google talk service. This time, the target is to make Google talk more compatible with other talk service. The announcement was made yesterday, confirming what was posted yesterday in this blog.

The new compatibility of the talk service is done through what is called "open federation" of talk services. Using open federation, Google talk users will be able to connect to different talk networks, such as Earthlink, Gizmo Project, Tiscali, and Netease.

A major advantage is that Google can connect using the Jabber protocol. Thus, any new talk service that can connect to Jabber will be available from Google talk.
