Google buys writely

Google has announced that writely, the online web service that emulates microsoft office, has been bought and incorporated to their growing set of online tools.

The media has for a long time discussed about the possibility of Google releasing an online competitor for Microsoft Office. Talks about this have intensified since the deal between Google and Sun Microsystems, the owner of the Star Office suite of office tools.

Despite the deal with Sun, nothing really appeared in terms of an online office competitor. In fact, nothing until now. With the acquisition of witely, Google has what can be considered the m0st well known free online competitor to Microsoft Word. Although clearly not providing the extensive features found on the Microsoft original program, writely is growing and incorporating many of the most popular feature found in that software.

With this acquisition, Google shows that the Google-hosted online office suite is not only a possibility, but is becoming a reality.
