Google reaches an agreement with US justice
Google has today reached an agreement with the US justice department about the subpoena request. The US justice wanted initially to receive 1 million searches from Google, with information such as where and when the search was made.
The agreement today allowed Google to provide only a much smaller number of search data: around 50000 web sites indexed, and only 5000 random searches. This amounts in practice for a small victory for Google -- the US justice had to tone down its initial request, in front of the opposition from the search giant.
We hope that in the future the government think a little better before requesting data from major search web sites. At least, Google has shown that it won't be so easy as they thought.
