eBay fighting Google checkout
Google checkout is the recently launched service that allows users to pay for goods bought on the Internet more easily.
The service is seen as a competitor of eBay-owned paypal. Although Google checkout is intended only for businesses (not person to person) payments, it can do a lot of harm to a profitable service of eBay.
Trying to avoid problems, eBay just announced that they will not allow payment to be done through Google checkout. The updated payment policy says that all methods that are not explicitly allowed by eBay are not permitted for the receipt of payments. As Google checkout is clearly not among the allowed methods, the result is clear.
Given the lack of cooperation with eBay, it may not be so far the day when Google creates its own alternative to eBay. I hope it is closer than we think.
